Introduction	The 26S proteasome is a multi-catalytic protease complex with a highly ordered structure consisting of two complexes, a 20S core and a 19S modulator. The 20S core is composed of 4 loops with 28 different subunits; 2 loops are composed of 7 α subunits, and 2 loops are composed of 7 β subunits. The 19S modulator consists of a base and a lid. The base contains 6 ATPase subunits and 2 non-ATPase subunits. The lid contains up to 10 non-ATPase subunits.
